Starry Night Painting Kits: Relief, Magnets or Numbers?
Share
A Starry Night painting kit can mean several different craft experiences. Choose a raised relief kit if you want to paint a sculpted surface, a magnet kit if you want a compact magnetic keepsake, or a paint-by-numbers kit if you want numbered regions that tell you where each color goes. Decide on the making process and display location before choosing a size.
Relife offers both a Starry Night relief painting and a Starry Night fridge magnet. They are separate products. This guide explains their confirmed contents and uses a numbered-canvas kit as a comparison, so you can choose the experience you actually want.
Compare the three formats
| Format | What guides you | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Relife 3D relief painting | Raised shapes and a tutorial card | Painting a dimensional display piece |
| Relife fridge magnet, DIY | A small raised magnet and instruction card | A compact painting project and magnetic keepsake |
| Paint by numbers | Numbers matching outlined areas to paint colors | Following a prescribed color plan on canvas or board |
These formats are different rather than universally better or worse. For example, Faber-Castell’s Starry Night paint-by-number kit uses canvas and acrylic paint. Check the particular maker’s listing for its size, supplies and guidance. Relife’s relief kit is not advertised as a numbered-canvas kit.
Relife Starry Night relief painting: which size?
The Relife Starry Night 3D painting kit comes in three listed artwork sizes. The display accessory changes with size, so “larger” is not the only difference.
| Size | Artwork dimensions | Included display accessory |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 13.5 × 10.5 cm; about 5.3 × 4.1 in | Wood easel |
| Medium | 17.5 × 17.5 cm; about 6.9 × 6.9 in | Wood easel |
| Large | 34 × 34 cm; about 13.4 × 13.4 in | PS frame |
Each listed relief size includes a relief painting board, paints, a brush, PVC palette and tutorial card, plus the display accessory shown above. Dimensions describe the artwork, not the shipping carton. Check the chosen variant’s photograph as well: the Small format is rectangular, while Medium and Large are square.
Measure the space where you plan to display the finished work. A Small piece suits a compact display area; Medium gives a larger square format with an easel. Choose Large when you want the 34 cm format and included frame. Do not assume wall fixings or an additional easel are included with Large—the product listing specifies a PS frame.
When the Starry Night magnet is the better fit
The Starry Night fridge magnet painting kit measures 7 × 8 cm, approximately 2.8 × 3.1 inches. Its DIY option includes an unpainted 3D magnet, acrylic paints, brushes, a wood easel and an instruction card.
Choose it when the small display format is part of the appeal. It can go on a magnetic fridge surface or on its included easel. Test the intended surface first: not every refrigerator exterior attracts magnets. This kit is a compact alternative to the relief board, not the Small size of that same product.
The magnet also offers a Painted option containing a finished magnet and wood easel. Choose that for ready-made decor. Choose DIY if the painting activity is the reason for buying. Our paint-your-own magnet guide explains the distinction in more detail.
Which approach suits a beginner?
Think about what kind of guidance you prefer. Numbered painting assigns colors to regions, which can suit someone who wants explicit color placement. A relief kit supplies the composition as physical shapes, leaving room to follow the reference or make your own color choices. Neither format requires you to begin by drawing the full scene on blank canvas.
Small details still take care in either format. Pick a design you want to spend time with, set up good lighting, and follow the supplied instructions. If you dislike choosing colors, a numbered kit may be a better match. If raised texture is the feature that interests you, start with the relief options.
Plan the activity as well as the finished artwork
Relife’s guidance suggests roughly one hour of hands-on time for its general DIY art kits and about 30 minutes for magnet kits. These are approximate planning estimates, not a promise that every size takes the same time. Drying, extra layers and your pace add time. A detailed or larger project can be split over more than one sitting.
For two people painting together, choose one DIY artwork per person if each person wants something to keep. The kits can differ in size or design; there is no need to force everyone into the same project. Cover the table, keep rinse water and a cloth nearby, and read the care instructions before beginning.
Questions to settle before checkout
- Am I buying an activity or a finished object? Check DIY versus Painted on the magnet page.
- Where will it go? Match magnet, easel or frame to the intended display.
- What is the actual artwork size? Use the centimetre dimensions rather than assuming Small means the same across products.
- Will delivery fit my plans? Check current shipping and processing information for your destination.
